Canela Cafe is a hidden gem on the East Side. The food was not only picture perfect it was fresh and delicious. It's not easy to find FRESH strawberries in the middle of Feb. in WI, somehow Canela Cafe pulled it off.

This place is just marvelous, the minute you walking in, you are greeted with a smile and makes you feel welcome. Our server was very friendly and attentive, was on top of our drinks, and condiments for our food. My fiance had the very berry french toast, and I myself had the steak and eggs. She was very pleased with the presentation of the dish, and was extremely content with how delicious her french toast was. The steak and eggs were spot on, the new york cut was cooked to perfection.

Love this brunch spot, mainly for the great service. It can get crazy on the weekends, but my husband and I often go on weekdays and have no trouble getting our pick of tables. I do wish there were a few more gluten-free, dairy free options. (Like GF pancakes made with nondairy milk) but I usually have the delicious grain bowl or an omelette. Also, we made a reservation once for a big group when we had family visiting, and we got a fantastic table in the back. Downer is lucky to have this gem.
